We are Anne Yocom and Robert (Bob) Yocom.
our Kennel is "Yoannewyn, Permanently
Registered,Bichons" We are situated on beautiful
Vancouver Island, B.C Canada.
We became interested in Bichons in
1987, after reading about them in the library. Bob
already had a Labrador Puppy, and although she was the
joy of his life, I really wanted a Bichon puppy. I was
going to England to see my family, so decided to ask
around to see if I could find a puppy......my sister
talked to the local vet, he recommended a local
Breeder, who in turn, refered me to another Breeder, who
was close by,
Even though, I went with our written standard in hand, I
fell in love with the first pretty face, and happy puppy
I saw. I did not see the short legs or longer Body, or
the curly tail and single coat, It was only when I tried
to show her in Canada, that I realised that my puppy was
not like the others, even though I thought that she was
beautiful, I learned that my lovely Baby was definitely
not a Show quality puppy.
I was now
completely besotted by the Breed ,and determined that I
would read every document and book that I could find on
the Bichon... until I was ready to find my number one
Show Dog. After weeks of searching and contacting
Breeders in England, Canada, and the States, I received a
call from Michael Coad of the Pamplona Kennels in Britain
telling me that he had a lovely" Mad Louie"
son, and was I interested?
Well my dreams came true," Pilot," (Wendar Fly
the Flag of Pamplona) came to me Nov 1989, at the age of
13 weeks. He bounced out of that Travel Crate and
straight in to my heart.
I was over the moon, Pilot was taking Group
placements at 6 months old. He and I had so much fun,
winning a total of nine BPIS, several Group placements.
He even had his own followers , whenever Pilot was in the
Ring, people would do a double take, and stop to watch
him. His movement was exquisite. When he was a year old,
I decided that I could no longer do him justice, and
decided to have him professionally handled. He loved Pat
and David Gignac, and went on to break the BIS record
which was set in 1977 by that wonderful Dog
.......AM/Cdn. CH. Myworth's Enchantment........
Pilot broke every Record that was ever set by a Bichon in
Canada. By the time that he was 2 1/2 yrs old, he had
made it into the Top Ten Dogs in Canada in 1992. He could
do no more,,, so he retired at Stud, and is a very
prominent Sire in many pedigrees today, both in the States
and in Canada. We decided to re-unite David and Pilot in
1996 at a Golden Age Classic Show, . There were 63 all
breed dogs entered. All Ch. many with multi
Championships, They were shown to a panel of four judges,
out of a possible 400 points, Pilot was awarded BIS with
a total of 395 points. Pilot still holds all the records
today, year 2001,....no dog in Canada has ever beaten
him. Now at the age of 12 yrs, he is fully retired, and
having a wonderful life.
Pilot
passed his Showmanship on to his progeny, and his
grandchildren. His daughter " Ch. Vassaly's
Yoannewyn Amelia" produced nine Ch, both U.S. and
Canadian, Her Son Am/ Cdn Ch. Yoannewyn's Hela V
Scorcher, went on to win Back to Back BIS plus one more,
for a total of three, and Nineteen Gr. One, all in the
space of nine months of limited showing , making him the
Number one Bichon in Canada for 1996. He was also the
number two Stud Dog in the States in 1999 with a total of
6 Am. Ch in that year....... Scorcher has many Champion
Son's and Daughter, on both sides of the border. He is
now retired and living with his son, Am/Cdn CH Yuneau
Juneau, on Salt Spring Island.
In 1991, I
imported a bitch from the Sulyka Kennels." in
England. Sulyka Pandora," Pandy" was bred back
to her Sire, Ch Sulyka Puzzle before coming out to
Canada. There were four Boys in the litter. One of the
top Breeders in Canada said when she saw them at 12 wks,
that " if she had to choose one, she would have a
very difficult time " they were all so beautiful.
They all fulfilled their promise, all went to Show homes.
Am/Cdn Ch. Yoannewyn's Col. Billericay, went on to win
three Best In Show, All Breed, and Number One Bichon in
Canada, handled by his owner Sandy Greenway (Sanbree).
He's the sire of Ch. Sanbree's Rainbow Cadillac "
Reba" who won BOW at the New York BFCA National
Specialty '97 with more than 300 bichons being shown. He
has Sired many top Champions, both in the States and in
Canada, including a BIS daughter "Rosa".
....Two of the other Boys went on to win their
Championships with Group placements, and produced many
lovely Champion Bichons. One of them Am/Cdn. Ch.
Yoannewyn's Baron Biggleswade, sired a BIS daughter, then
went on to do well in Obedience, unfortunately Sir B, as
he was affectionately called, died two years ago. A great
loss to the Bichon world, and to his owner, Tracy Cook.
The boy
that I kept ,Yoannewyn's Capt. Barnstaple,
"Barnie"was a very stubborn little boy, but
very beautiful. He decided at an early age that the Show
Ring was not for him, no matter how I coaxed him. It was
most annoying to see him prancing around at home, but the
minute I took him in to the ring, Barnie put the brakes
on with all four feet. Dale Hunter and I decided to try
to produce something by Capt. Barnstaple, so we bred him
to her bitch" Am/Cdn Kibbetts Craigdale Joy"
this breeding was very Successful, it produced four
puppies 2- M ,2- F One of the males went to be a
companion dog, The other male is Am/Cdn/Int. Ch.
Craigdale Yoannewyn El Toro, who became the Top Bichon in
the States at Breed Level in 1996, "Toro", has
sired many , many Champions, he is a very consistent
producer, Most of his progeny is very distinctive, by
their wonderful movement , and very pretty heads.
One of the females, from the Barnie-Joy litter, "
Espana" decided that if her Sire didn't like to
show, then she wouldn't either. Dale did manage to get 5
points on her,but when this little girl was Bred to
Am/Cdn Ch Wendar Fly the Flag, she produced a lovely
litter, one of which became an Am/Cdn Ch very quickly,
then "Auto" went on, with his owner, Pat
McCallister to appear in the Movie " Best In
Show"
The other female "Carmen" just loved to show
,she acquired her Am and Cdn. title very quickly and when
Bred to Am/Cdn.Ch Yoannewyn's Hela Va Scorcher produced
four beautiful puppies, three ( Smoke, Bubba and Cha Cha
)of which were titled on both sides of the Border. and
are now producing Ch and Group winning sons and daughters
of their own. Carmen was also bred to Am/Cdn Ch
Dove-Cote's White Tornado, this litter included a
beautiful female,Ch. Yoannewyn Miranda by Craigdale.
Miranda took BOW at the Canadian National in 1995, and
when bred to Pilot ,she produced two... Am Ch Yoannewyn's
Lucky in Love, now living in California, and Am/Cdn Ch.
Yoannewyn's Up with the Lark , who became Top Winning
Opposite Sex Bichon in Canada, 1998 and now now lives in
Minnesota with her owner Roberta Bleecker
Pandora,
went on to get her Canadian Championship, after that
first litter, then in 1992 I bred her to Pilot, which
produced two Ch. Boys, Yoannewyn's Drummer Boy, and Am.
Cdn Ch. Yoannewyn's Dream of Aspinrock , Drummer was
never used at Stud, but Dreamer has sired many Champions
, for his owner Debbie McFarlane ,and many other
prominent Canadian Bichon Breeders.
Pandora was
bred to Am. Ch. Wimac's Hugo Boss of Deja Vu, in 1993.
She produced six Puppies, three of which became
Champions, Am/Cdn Ch Yoannewyn's Francesca, Cdn. Ch.
Yoannewyn's Aspinrock Fantasy, and Ch.Yoannewyn's Fine
and Dandy. Francesca went on to have two litters, which
produced four Ch, both Am and Cdn. one of which was
Am/Cdn Ch. Yoannewyn Yuneau Juneau, who in turn produced
a multi Group winning male, Am/Cdn Ch. Yoannewyn's Chalet
Noah's Bark , now living in Minnesota and producing typey
puppies for some of the top Breeders in that area. Both
Dandy and Fantasy are also producing Champion progeny.
We imported a lovely female "Darla", ( Finnish Ch. Jitterbop Crash Bang Boom ) from Jaana Kaupinnen in 2001.
